About Conscious Kinesthetics

Jennifer Whittemore founded Conscious Kinesthetics on the belief that every human being can find more enjoyment in life by increasing his or her freedom of movement. During her 20+ years of body-mind exploration, Jennifer has helped hundreds of clients move through pain, stress, and disability to find, not only a sense of physical improvement, but larger life transformation.

Conscious Kinesthetics is the culmination of Jennifer’s pursuit of many physical and energetic disciplines including:

Iyengar-based Hatha Yoga and Pranayama--awareness-based postures that unify body sensation, consciousness, and breath. Known for the use of assistive props, Iyengar yoga unlike any other form, uncovers places of chronic holding, improves alignment, and supports all levels of yogis on their path to freedom.

IMT--a multi-system, learning modality based on concepts from physical therapy, osteopathy, energy and intuitive medicine to focus the body’s resources on improving circulation, immunity, drainage, elimination, detoxification, repair, and energetic restructuring. The process of IMT touches on all levels of the human experience, to produce significant changes to one’s physical structure.

Hanna Somatics--a modern movement discipline that encourages neural repatterning. Clients experience radical changes in ease of movement, range of motion, fluidity, grace, and athletic performance. Hanna also addresses the root causes of why these patterns lodge themselves in the body and how to permanently change them.

Pilates--a physical conditioning system that stresses body awareness and core connection. Pilates developed his exercise system during WWI in response to ill health, poor posture, faulty breathing, and the detrimental effects of “modern” living.

Jennifer's work is novel, inviting the best of her years of practice into a format that is uniquely her own. She believes strongly that the body is the place where one’s biography meets one’s biology; that how one moves through the world is the living record of that union. To change one’s alignment, stance, gait and support, is literally to change the biology of one’s cells, the function of one’s brain, the timbre of one’s emotions, and the valence of one’s thoughts.

Clients work with Jennifer to find their way back to wholeness, to become more aware and connected, to move and feel well, in short, to transform their “physiography.”

Jennifer has worked with clients who have special issues including:

  • Back and Neck Pain and Injury
  • Joint overuse injuries and Soft tissue Injuries and Restrictions
  • Arthritis and Autoimmune Disorders
  • Scoliosis and Postural Disorders
  • Women’s Health
  • Overweight and Obesity
  • Cancer survivors
  • Pre- and Postnatal
  • Stress Reduction

As one client stated:

“ Jennifer Whittemore is one of the most intuitive people I know. Every time I see her I come away impressed yet again. How does she always seem to put her finger right on it? Both as an IMT practitioner and Pilates Instructor, she has helped me at various times of my life, consistently offering her inimitable skills. Jenn is an incredibly generous and very kind person, whose knowledge of the body is truly remarkable. Anyone who sees her will benefit from the experience.”
